$37,500.00

An English, George IV period, carved and inlaid faux specimen wood rosewood games table attributed to the Gillow’s workshop. This table is a masterpiece with inset leather game board having varied crests and coronets, faux specimens borders and two working drawers fitted with trays for chessmen. The rectangular shaped top is over a classically carved rosewood trestle base with leaf carved collars raised on fluted double columns with acanthus carved downswept legs ending in paw feet with concealed casters. This table was probably a special commission for a client of noble distinction. Related examples are noted in “Gillows of Lancaster and London” by Susan E. Stuart. Ref. Plates 330-333, pig 302-303; also plates 274-276, pig 268.
