Spiral of Stories

$9,000.00

Spiral of Stories is a luminous and deeply emotional meditation on the Nova Festival — an event that once celebrated music, freedom, and collective human joy, turned suddenly into a nightmare. The work’s central spiral, shaped like a teardrop, captures that transformation: from ecstatic movement to stillness, from sound to silence, from life to loss.

Constructed from layers of mirrored glass and hand-cut figures, the piece invites viewers to step closer, discovering a constellation of miniature silhouettes — people once dancing, reaching, holding, and surrendering to rhythm. Each figure represents a fragment of a shared story, a life cut short.

The mirrored surfaces catch light and reflection, weaving the viewer directly into the composition. The work refuses passive observation; it asks us to participate — to see ourselves among those who danced. The reflection becomes an act of remembrance, suggesting the persistence of spirit and the shimmer of memory that refuses to fade.

The overall shape is intentionally uncomfortable and unbalanced, a visual echo of disruption and grief. Its asymmetry mirrors the sudden fracture of lives and communities. The surrounding background evokes both the desert sky under which the Nova Festival once pulsed and the scattered fragments of its aftermath. Embedded throughout are symbols that deepen the emotional resonance: the ladder, representing the desperate attempt to escape, and the shards encircling the frame, representing the impossibility of doing so.

Spiral of Stories stands as both memorial and a recognition of October 7, 2023.
