James P Kerr Studio

About This Dealer
James P. Kerr was born in Buffalo, New York in 1953. He studied with the late Lazio Szabo, a prominent Hungarian portrait painter (from 1964-1970), and the late Carl Illig (1971), a noted landscape painter, from East Aurora. James has taught painting and drawing since 1970. Mr. Kerr’s approach to oil painting is direct and colorist. Inspiration for much of his work is derived from scenic locations in Florida, the Caribbean, New England, and North Carolina. Responding to the vibrant colors of nature, Mr. Kerr has developed a high key palette, which is well suited for rendering tropical and Caribbean scenes. James P. Kerr displays his interest in the human form through figurative works, portraits, and studies of human activity. Tropical markets, boxing matches, nudes, fishermen, musicians, landscapes, and coastal scenes are frequent subjects. Descriptions of his work range from Ne-Impressionistic to Expressionistic. Exhibiting for over 30 years, Mr. Kerr has had more than 20 one-man sows throughout the United States. Collectors have sought James P. Kerr’s oil since 1966. His paintings are represented in hundreds of private and corporate collections, including the Wachovia Bank and Trust, RJR Nabisco, Glaxo Wellcome, Bank of America, and MBNA. James lives in Delray Beach, Florida and maintains studios in both Banner Elk, North Carolina and Boca Raton, Florida. See more by James at www.jamespkerr.com
