We are delighted to present two captivating artist lectures: “From Dreams to Cosmos” by Liu Yang & “Visual Poetry” by Jingyu Xu.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Jingyu Xu is a multi-media artist whose main areas of practice are sculpture, painting, video, and installation art. Jingyu was born in Shandong, China in 1981. She currently lives and works in South Florida, USA and Beijing, China. Jingyu’s home province, Shandong, is one of the oldest regions in China and has played an important role in China since the beginning of the Chinese civilization. Growing up in a province steeped in Chinese history during a time of openness, great change, and rapid social and economic development, this afforded Jing the opportunity to learn about contemporary art through a traditional lens. This has helped her develop her imaginative and broad vision as seen in her art.

Artist Lecture 2 @ 7PM: “Visual Poetry” by Jingyu Xu.     “Chinese Characters and the Harmony of Color”

In this lecture, Jingyu will dive into the captivating world of Chinese characters and their visual aesthetics. Tracing the evolution of such characters before they underwent further simplification, giving birth to the written language today. “In my artworks, Chinese characters serve as dots or lines, seamlessly integrated into the composition. Take the painting “Waves and Sand,” for example, I use texture effects to create the sensation of waves, and then meticulously write the Chinese character for “sand” (沙) as each grain, capturing the minute details that make each grain unique in color and form. The rhythmic arrangement of these Chinese characters for “sand” gives birth to a surface brimming with visual interest.”

Following each lecture, attendees will have the incredible opportunity to personally meet and greet the artists. Engage in meaningful conversations, inquire about their artistic processes, and deepen your understanding of their unique perspectives.
